CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
With unprecedented growth in the cannabis industry, employers are finding it increasingly difficult to find knowledgeable employees to work in all aspects of the industry and particularly in retail, manufacturing and agricultural positions. In response to this growing skills gap and need, Green Flower has created certificate programs designed to prepare students for these open positions and position them to be able to grow and advance in the industry.
Three certificate programs are offered in the leading job sectors of the industry.
The Cannabis Retail Specialist program serves as a thorough training for those interested in a cannabis retail career. The first unit covers cannabis compliance training, which is crucial for this highly-regulated industry. The second unit dives into specific skills based training in cannabis retail by exploring the history and botany of the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids, terpenes, and the Endocannabinoid System are also examined, as well as the various delivery methods and cannabis products used in today’s market. Participants will also gain an understanding of what to cover when onboarding new patients that takes into account the interactions, contradictions, and potential side effects. The final unit covers health and safety training, including receiving and transport, best security procedures, inventory tracking, the importance of documentation and recordkeeping, and product safety.
The Cannabis Cultivation Specialist program serves as a thorough training to the job role of the cultivation technician. There are three main units to this program. In the first unit, learners begin with cannabis compliance training. This is a great introduction to this program, as the industry is heavily regulated and understanding the importance of maintaining compliance is crucial. In the second unit, we will dive into specific skills based training in cannabis cultivation by exploring the botany and genetics of the cannabis plant. Next, seeds, germination, transplanting, and cloning are examined. Learners will discover growing media and the various light sources available. Then we will look at watering essentials, the vegetativeand flowering cycles of the plant. Lastly, we will identify the proper ways to harvest, trim, process, cure and store cannabis. In our third and final unit we focus on health and safety training. We will cover topics like receiving and transport, best security procedures, inventory tracking, the importance of documentation and recordkeeping, and product safety.
This program serves as a thorough training to the job role of the manufacturing agent. There are three main units to this program. In the first unit, learners begin with cannabis compliance training. This is a great introduction to this program, as the industry is heavily regulated and understanding the importance of maintaining compliance is crucial. In the second unit, learners will dive into the business of cannabis extraction and examine the essential cannabis extraction principles. Next we will explore the various extraction options, like alcohol dominant extraction, sub and supercritical fluids, and solventless solutions. We will also discover the importance of data driven analytics and what the environmental impact has, as well as explore the future of extraction. Lastly, we will explore cannabis processing and manufacturing. We will take a look at the foundation of cannabis infused products and the considerations for product development. In our third and final unit we focus on health and safety training. We will cover topics like receiving and transport, best security procedures, inventory tracking, the importance of documentation and recordkeeping, and production safety.
Our Student-Centric Approach
Green Flower’s ethical imperative is to supply expert education that can be applied in a real-world setting, so we embrace design thinking methods that promote theory-to-practice learning. Design Thinking is an evidence-based learning framework in which our learners move from the more concrete to the more abstract, and from the more empirical to the more innovative. This curricular framework helps learners to reduce cognitive load; to retain information through spacing and interleaving; to master lateral and vertical thinking; and to focus on holistic, trans competent skills that will prepare them for actionable careers in the cannabis industry.
We use best practices in Universal Design, Experiential and Adaptive Learning, and Inclusion & Diversity (TILT) to build content for a broad spectrum of teaching and learning styles. Our curriculum is developed by a team of instructional design and interactive technology experts, and is rigorously reviewed and refreshed at least twice annually. Importantly, our framework undergirds and reinforces the general tools needed for academic success in any discipline, including time management, good research and note-taking skills, analytical thinking, working in teams, and leveraging digital and analog technologies.
Before creating content, we review the current policies published by the WASC and NECHE accreditation agencies. Our certificate programs are also individually checked against accreditation standards for continuing education in their fields (the American Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education sector, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, and American Society for Horticultural Science).
We follow the same procedure that most research universities’ Academic Senates use for vetting new course and program proposals: Knowledge content is co-created by subject matter experts and learning theorists; and curricular content is co-designed with the subject matter experts, learning theorists, and a team of instructional designers, instructional technologists, and media producers to develop the learning outcomes, multimodal resources, rubrics, and formative and summative assessments around the knowledge content. Our materials are frequently compared against syllabi, resources, and assessment materials from courses being offered in sibling disciplines at top public and private universities; this ensures that our courses accommodate a broad spectrum of learners, and that they meet the rigor and standards expected at the most highly respected institutions of learning in our country.
